How can i accumulate experience to work in the Career Services Dept. at a University?
I am currently working on my Bachelor's in Human Resource Management, and would love to work in the Career Services Dept. at a school. I currently work full time in an accounting dept. at a University, and constantly see students graduate with degrees and not utilize them. I already have "my foot in the door" by working at a University, so I do not want to quit my job. What kind of experience should I try to accumulate? Thank You!

- In your academic work and your work in the accounting department of the university, you should be able to approach one of the Vice Presidents at the university and ask about vacancies in Career Services. Once you finish your degree, you may be seriously considered for a Career Services position. However, there is probably one director of career services and several career services personnel. Those also include secretaries that are professional secretaries and not career counselors. Your targeted job opportunity as a career counselor might be enhanced if there is a Master's degree program in student counseling at the university. That program would be in education or higher education if yours is an urban, large university. That would take more time and money to do a Master's degree. It would also be risky to get a professional job in a university where you are both working and where you are a student.
