what is career planning and development?

1. Career planning is about determining career goals (be they job, location, salary, hours worked etc) and defining a plan (timescales and actions) to achieve them. Development is very much a part of that process and is the creation of opportunities and "building blocks" for career progression. It can cover aspects such as re-skilling, training etc.
2. Career planning is taking a look at where you are and where you would like to be in a year, 5 years, etc. from now. Then you look at what it would take to get your there. Career development is taking the skills that you have and using them to build on. Whether its taking classes, learning a new program, or just getting organized; you learn from your surroundings and make yourself a better person from it.
