What is my career?

I'm going to be 30 soon. I work for a great company but my boss pretty much told me that my resume is mainly customer service and sales support. I was a bit suprised by this. I dont get commission, but i have certainly dealth with customers in a sales envirmonment (on phone or over email), I also have two temps who I manage, I've done event planning and have expereince with many systems and i've updated one of our websites. Why would he pretty much say to me that i only had general adminstrative duties, when i feel i have more than that. I am also in a masters program for communications management. I'm feeling discouraged. I'm a bit bored with work, i think my boss senses this. I am meeting with the career services people at my college next week...my boss is also giving me some accounts to manage. I dont know what else to do to improve

  1. If you are not getting commission or bonus for the perfomance of the marketing team, you're basically just support and customer service. You can step up your game and be a real sale person or you can always call yourself a "relationship associate" which is common
  2. The type of work that you are describing sounds like a career of a project coordinator or operations specialist. You might want to do a search on Yahoo hot jobs using some of the key words here to see what you come up with (e.g. systems, account management, event planning).
  3. I worked in a position similar to this prior to moving into a definite sales role full time. The position was in Client Services, and the job titles I held with either Program Manager or Account Manager. Client Services Manager was also thrown around for awhile. If you have client facing experience, you should be able to move into an account management/sales position.
