Should I attend a career fair? Have you had any success with career fairs?
I am a college senior looking to continue my career in Human Resources. I was thinking of attending a few career fairs during my last semester and I wanted do know if you had any success with career fairs? Is it worth my time or should I continue searching for employment the traditional way (i.e networking, career services on campus, careerbuilder.com etc.)

- I've never found a job at a career fair. I would not spend alot of time with that.
- I have not had success with career fairs but there are a lot of other job search methods I also haven't had success with. The best strategy is to know what you want and go after it. Rather than thinking of what channels not to use, you should be thinking what other things you can do for your job search. The worst thing that can happen is that you will not get a job but you can practice being prepared and making a good impression. Check out this video, it will be helpful.
- I've had a lot of success with career fairs. They are good for people who are adept at talking with recruiters and are able to sell themselves. My advice would be to dress professionally, have resumes ready and know what to say to the recruiters. It takes time and practice. The first couple of times out might not be that successful. However, if you learn from your mistakes and do not give up, you should find some success. I also advice you to keep seeking employment in the traditional ways that you have listed. Looking for work is a full time job in itself (as the cliche goes) and the more effort you pour into it the more opportunities you will find. Don't let failures get to you. Most people will have way more failures than successes. But even just one success will count. Good luck.
