I need a new non- food service career--- any thoughts?

I have spent my whole life in food service and I think I would like something new but I am at a loss. I have a BA in psychology and a AAS in culinary arts. I have been working as a chef for several years and am pretty good at it. I have also done front of the house management and I enjoy what I do but I would like to have some more time for myself. I work crazy long hours and never have a weekend off. Any thoughts on new career? This is all I have ever done and I love food but it is time for something new.

  1. I worked in food service for 4 years and really enjoyed it as well. But, I got married and had children and like you wanted something where I could actually have time off. I envyed the customers I saw on the weekends because they were off and I wasn't! I ended up going into banking and have been in banking for 5 years now. It is something that I really enjoy and have moved up quickly in. (I am now a bank manager.) The pay is much better and the hours are wonderful! What I might suggest for you, since you have a BA in psychology, would be to look into maybe being a school counselor. You would have to best hours of all your friends! You would be off every major holiday and not to mention have the whole summer off as well! I would love to do that! Or maybe you could even become a manager in the food service department for the school system?
