Foreign Service career track selection?

I'm considering a career with the U.S. State Department. I would like to be a Foreign Service Officer, but choosing the career-track is difficult. I could see myself in 2 of the choices. Is there a way to find out which is easier in terms of getting a position in the foreign service? In other words, which track has the most openings available? I'm looking into the consular and political career tracks. I have a hunch that consular may be easier.
