Career Counseling? I would some assistance on what career/job I should go into. I went to two years of college, but am still undecided on my major. Has anyone sought a career counselor before? Does it help or are there any other ways to help me decide what career to go into?
Has anyone had success with career counseling? I have a job I do like, although it is rather mundane, boring and has little advancement opportunity. However, in an economy where jobs are being lost left and right, the job seems to be secure and does have a good benefits package. I also am able to pay my bills every month. I am very grateful for that. But, it is has been ten years since I graduated from college, and I have yet to obtain a position that seems to be in skill set. Would career counseling be helpful for me.
Does anyone know of any doctoral programs in career counseling? Hey all, Been thinking of my future lately (and you know how fun that is!!) and I am about to obtain my Masters in Counseling. Career counseling - Has anybody benefitted from professional career counseling? I am working in the IT field and have a wide range of skills - from developing systems to working on strategy for IT at the CxO level. I am still not able to land the right job/opportunity that I know I am capable of handling. I also work very hard and give any job 110% attention. I tried starting a company but am unable to gain any momentum with the software product I have developed, even though everyone I have talked to thinks that the idea is a great one. Do you think career counseling will help? any other ideas?
what are some possible majors good for a counseling career.? I'm not really sure what major should i pick. I can't get into psychology because it's too competetive in my school. What are other majors i can declare? Career wise i want to end up doing something where i can directly work with peoples issues. Maybe counseling or anything in that area.
Where is Career counseling center in Pakistan? I need career counseling. According to my information and research you can get this service after admission in university. I want this service before admission. Is there is any other way for career counseling like online that accept payment in money order/draft or any intuition that provide this service in Pakistan?
What are some good resources for career counseling? I need some help! I need to find a new career. I am highly educated and a hard worker, but I have come to the realization that the career pathway I am on now will not lead me to the life goals I have. I am very lost at how to go about this. I would like to find someone who could sit down with me, look at my education/resume, and help give me some ideas about what kind of careers are even out there. I don't mind pursuing other classes/training that will help make me more marketable, but I don't necessarily want another degree right now. The thing is, I feel like I don't know anything about what kind of jobs exist and what kinds of background you need to do these jobs, let alone how to break into a new industry. I can write a top-notch resume/cover letter and can fend for myself in an interview, I don't need help on that side. I need help on the side of matching my skills to what jobs exist and knowing which jobs would provide an adequate salary range. Also, what might these services cost? I have spent these last five years pursuing the idealism of my college days and am realizing that it just doesn't pay the bills. I don't have a lot of extra money for this kind of thing, but I am willing to pay what I do have for some good results.
How can I find career counseling/advice??? I am in the process of my first real job search since graduating college, and it's a nightmare. I don't even know where to start and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. Is there some kind of service that offers career counseling and assistance with trying to find a job? I have a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies and also was a Peace Corps volunteer for two years. Still, everytime I try to find a job I feel like I'm just not qualified for anything. Does anyone have advice on what my next step should be?
Question about pursuing a career in addiction counseling.? I'd like to pursue a career in addiction counseling in private practice. I intend to continue working in my current field (in a very different field) to support myself until I meet requirements that would allow me to legally practice in New York State. What are the minimum education requirements required to practice addiction counseling privately? What alternatives to graduate degree programs are there that meet these minimum education requirements upon completion? I appreciate your help with this. This would be a major career change for me, but I believe this is my true calling.
Is there any free counseling dealing with career and depression? I'm 30 years old and I need counseling someone to talk to about my depression, marriage, finding a good career and other stuff. I could go to a therapist or psychiatrist but they can be expensive. I'm on somewhat of a tight budget and I made a promise to myself not to spend too much money. So is there any place to go for free counseling on depression and career advice?

How do I get started in a career in counseling the military? And do I have to be in the Military to do this? I am currently a undergraduate student. I'm very interested in becoming a counselor, therapist or social worker for the military, especially for all the troops coming back home, burdened with the stress and trauma of war. I googled it and I can only seem to find lists of careers in the military (i.e. www.careersinthemilitary.com) but not information about how to go about becoming a therapist or counselor for the miltary. More importantly, I am not in the military and I am wondering if I have to be to be a counselor?
Where on the internet can I find good resources for career/guidance counseling? I am interested in varying careers and lines of work, and therefore confused about what classes or degree(s) I should pursue. I would like to find a site or group of sites that would be useful to helping me discover what I would like to do for a living; something similar to or hopefully more resourceful than a school guidance counselor.
Any tips on finding a career (counseling or teaching) in Raleigh, NC? I have been working in a special position in my city at a high school. I am a counselor/ youth advocate. Does anyone know of a excellent service offering true career evaluation? As far as I understand it that recruiters work for the companies that pay there salaries. Pursue a career in Addictions Counseling or Psychiatric Nursing? In school, I was given the opportunity to explore one of the two fields. (there were other choices, but these were my favourites of the careers I'm apparently suited to - next to Strarving Artist.) Any information you could give me on these two careers would be greatly appreciated. Preferably from someone who knows what they're talking about, or better yet, someone who works/has worked in one of these fields.
I need HELP with career counseling/physchology bad!? I am 30+ years old with a BS in liberal arts, but never sought work in that field or any other field after graduation over 7 years ago. I disastrously lack FOCUS! I am utterly tired of not knowing what I want to do in life...and not being able to help anyone I care about because, well, because I'm not doing anything, I don't have the means to help, and I don't have any foothold to take action... I NEED to take care of my future, but feel it may b 2 late 4 perfection? I WANT a rewarding, prestigious, well paying, stable career, but... at this point I am afraid of 1. how to choose the right career as well the best place to go back to school (this is where I need counseling or a psychologist or something) 2. the funds to go back through school ( are there loans or freebies that will help an old guy like me go back to school for minimum cost and debt?) 3. I'm afraid that after finishing, I'll be way older than most of the kids graduating, and I won't be able to compete for work
Can you tell me about a career in Genetic Counseling? I've been trying to find information online, but apparently (even though it's listed as a good career to get into) there relatively little information out there, as I could find hardly anything. I'm looking for information about what programs I should take in college, and what options I have...etc... general information that would be helpful to someone greatly considering that career field.
Advice on how to enter into a career in counseling...? I have a degree in Biology from UC Irvine, 1996. I was in medical devices marketing for 7 years when I decided to go into nursing. I learned that nursing in general wasn't something I wanted to do, but I did find that I loved the patient interaction aspect. I would like to get into counseling, though I am not sure what specific area. I am leaning towards kids or teenagers. I am 32 years old, so I'm hoping not to have to go to school for 4+ years. Like I said before, I do have a BS in Biology and some nursing education behind me. Does anyone have any suggestions for entry level type positions in a counseling field?
How to pursue career in Counseling with a Felony from 7 years ago? my girlfriend was convicted for possession of meth 7 years ago. she did some time in prison and finished a 2 year treatment program for substance abuse. she has been clean and sober now over 6 years and currently works as a residential technician at a treatment facility. she very much wants to go back to school and become a certified counselor specializing in addiction issues. she has turned her life completely around and wants to invest all of her time and knowledge into helping other addicts find recovery. what are the steps she should take to become a drug and alcohol counselor? is there a specific course outline to become one? thanks in advance. there is no need for negative comments concerning her past. i just want to be able to help her get into school to pursue what she calls her 'mission in life' to help other addicts.

At 28 years old, being a US citizen with a diploma, what are my options for entering this field? Where do I begin?

Curious about Counseling Career? What's it like to be a counselor and what are the pros and cons of the job? Which major would help out more so Psychology or Social Work? I'm considering possiblities and I really like sociology and psychology however I'm not real thrilled about having to go to graduate school. Is there any jobs close to counseling that have a bachelor's degree? Are jobs plentiful? Thanks!

Help me! Career counseling for environmental sciences.? Four the past four years I have been working on a BA in biology in order to go to med school. I graduate at the end of this year. However, I no longer want to be an MD. I realize I care more about the environment than I do the people who are destroying it. I want to have a career with which I would be able to do some good in the world. And maybe I can go back home to Pakistan or to Nigeria (where I grew up) and help the environmental situation there. Anyway. I really don't know what to do. All my life I have wanted to be a doctor. This is all too new to me. Any suggestions? Yup. I don't care about people as I do about the environment or animals. Seriously. Do you think me daft or something? I wouldn't be asking this question if I wasn't serious. (This is for the person who insists I am full of vinegar. Whatever that means.)
Career in guidance counseling? I was wondering what a job in guidance counseling is like (both in the elementary and high school levels)? Is it a lot less stressful than a teaching job, or does it depend?
College Admissions Advisor/Career Counseling Careers Info? I was thinking about going into the medical/health care field but now since I'm starting college soon I've notice how the admission advisors and career counselors were very helpful and I thought I would like to have that kind of career. I'm nice, friendly, helpful, so how does one go about becoming an college admissions advisor or career counselor? What degree is needed? I'm thinking about going into the Human Service Associates Degree program then if a Bachelor is needed I will go from there. What can one do with an Associates Degree in Human Service? My mother was a social worker and hated it so she really doesn't want me to go into Human Service but I try to tell her there's other jobs in Human Service besides social work. Is the job outlook good for careers in human service or as an college admissions advisor or career counselor? What is the salary? I would like to be an admission or career advisor at the college I will be attending because they've been so nice and influenced me.
Which is the better career: becoming a school counseler or a school psychologist? I'm interested in pursuing a career in counseling in grade school or secondary school, but am not sure whether I should be looking at a school psychology program or a school counseling program. I'm hoping that I can find a job in which I'm able to spend a reasonable amount of time working with kids on issues, problem solving, creating action plans, etc. and not solely focusing on testing. Any insight from those who have jobs in this field (or who are in graduate school in this area) would be appreciated. Also, details about what a "day in the life" looks like would be really helpful, too.
What do people think about a career as a careers guidance counsellor for young people? I'm thinking about a career in careers guidance counselling (in England) which I know now falls under the Connexions service. I was just wondering what people thought about it as a career. Is it rewarding? Having already worked in social services I am aware of the difficult people that you deal with but what I want to know do you feel as though you're making a difference and is it worthwhile?
How to respond to a career crisis? I am finding great difficulty applying for a new job. I already hold a Bachelor in Arts and a MSc, and have 5 years work experience behind me, and find interviews hard to come by. Should I change my career direction completely, gett some additional qualifications. I work in Admin at the moment and a career in Counselling and HR appeals to me but that would involve a lot of cost. What is the best option out of this predicament?
Can I council myself using DIY career counseling? Or should I treat my depression first? Does anybody have very good Internet sources? Is it possible to teach myself so that I could counsel myself? DIY always works best with me. And if I suffer from severe episodes of depression (such as now), should I try to heal myself first before making my next career plan etc.? Mature, respectful answers are most welcome. It took me a lot of effort to type this out in my state, so please bear with my indulgence. I cannot afford therapy; hence the need for DIY. I just got a new job which his already proving too much for an 'old' person like me. I have two days off starting tonight. I thought I could make use of the time. P.s. I don't live in America. I'm in Singapore.
Career advice about counseling? I have a year left until I finish my BA. I would like to go into counseling (not school counseling) and would eventually like to have a doctorate. Can anyone give me some advice on the steps I need to take? Also, has anyone gone to Walden University? Would they recommend their program or another program?

Can anyone help me with deciding a career? I am asking for help from anyone who can help guide me to the best possible career for me. I want to find an online college that offers an associates degree in health and nutrition for children. I want to go work for my local Children's Medical Center, or If I can't get there, then I want to work with children. Children make me happy and they make me laugh. Having a career working with them would make my life less stressful and I hope I can make a really good living by doing that. I have looked and looked for online colleges, and haven't seen any that offer associate degrees in wellness and nutrition(or health). I have seen respiratory, occupational, and physical therapist assistant degrees, but I am afraid those are hard to understand careers. So If anyone can help me pinpoint what is out there for me, or give me free career counseling, I would appreciate it. I hope to hear back with answers.
Career counseling - PhD in psychology not good enough? I've been trying to figure out my career for a while now. I've visited MANY career counselors, academic advisers, career advising sites, etc... and feel I know a lot about all kinds of different careers, skill sets involved, types of tests to measure ability & interest, etc... After all of this I realized that even though I found myself losing interests in lots of careers after considering them for a time, I found that one thing I still enjoy after all of this time is the actual learning & researching about careers from an outsiders perspective. I like looking at career sites, for example, and learning about the careers inside & out, even if I have no interest in actually joining the career. I keep being told that a masters in education is the best way to go, but I was wondering if a PhD in psychology would be alright? I know it probably takes longer, and is more difficult, but I'd prefer it. I know at least one career counselor who has one, and I want to make sure it won't hurt.
career counseling help: urgent!? I want to be a physical therapist. Specifically aquatic therapist. My problem is that I know I have to go through school to get there but which is the fastest/best way. I'm in a comunity college right now under a biology degree and then would transfer to a pt school hopefully in one year. however there is another community college where i can get a pta degree. which is better? im looking to get into a career as fast as possible. i just want my dream to come true. and i know "patience is a virtue" but i've been patient for 3 years now with nothing to show for it. please help, anyone please.
Where can I find effective career counseling and therapy? I am the only young male in my household. My father is there but he's on a whole different mentality. I am 23 years old. I live with my mother, father, sister, and nephew. I get the urge to finally move out but money is short. I miserably work as a floating patient service rep in a clinic. I am working part time because of frequent complaints I got on my job, which has lowered my self-confidence and self-esteem. I could continue full time, but I would only be putting myself more into a job I don't even enjoy or that I am not really good at. Basically, at least I am aware that I am not much a people person or the type that is blessed to effectively deal with people, which the medical field involves. I already have a degree in English, but I dread teaching. I like to write but lost some confidence in that as well. Sometimes I feel that I can't be understood. I think here are certain things that only guys could understand amongst each other. My older brother lives in Florida.
Honestly, (see pic) will my looks interfere with my counseling career? I am currently getting my masters in counseling, and in the future I want to work as a marriage/couples therapist. I'll graduate in about 2 years. I also work as a cocktail waitress at a nice restaurant...sometimes customers ask me about myself, and a lot of times the men laugh when i tell them I want to be a marriage therapist, and say things like "There's no way my wife would let someone like YOU be our therapist, it would make the problem worse! hahah."...I think meaning that since i am an attractive female, married women won't want me to be their counselor. Do you think this is true??? Or is that ridiculous? Men and women, please both respond with what you would think. Here's a link to a picture of me...be honest with what you think. No big deal, problems, etc. (Obviously I won't be wearing anything low-cut or inappropriate when seeing clients! Keep that in mind). http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/kujayhawk3eb/02_01_8.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/kujayhawk3eb/Nov10256.jpg I know not only ugly people can be therapists, but i realize that a lot of marital problems will deal with issues of infidelity and insecurity, and I just wonder if being attractive could make things worse. OK WHOA Clcalifornia...this catty-ness is exactly what i am talking about. I think what i am asking is a legit question. It's ridiculous that a person can't acknowledge the fact that they are attractive and ask a serious question about it without being called self-centered. I am not caught up in my looks because i am asking this question. It would have never occured to me, had no one said anything. Just because someone is attractive, this means they "can't see beyond the mirror"? Wow. About my job: I work at a nice steakhouse, not a bar...i just take the tables in the bar section of the restaurant. I make a lot of money in only 2 shifts a week, its the only way i can afford school. FYI. WHAT??? I am too 23, born in 1983, graduated hs in 2001, college in 2005! what the hell!
If I were to pursue counseling as a career? I am in grade nine and it's time to start thinking about what I'd like my future career to be. I've been thinking of counseling for a couple months now and I really like the idea of it. I am also told I have the gift of encouragement which might be a little helpful. What skills would I need and which courses should I take? Which universities offer good counseling programs? (Preferably near south-eastern Canada.) How much money does the average counsellor make a month, and how much does a great counsellor make per month? What are some different kinds of counselling I could go into? I'm sorry the question's so long! You don't have to answer everything, just as much as you can, please. Thanks! :)
A new career in counseling - is it feasible? I have a degree in Psych (grad 95), am I likely to be accepted and succeed in a Masters program with no experience in a psych field and more than 10 yrs elapsed since school. I was a good student back then, but shortly after graduating I went off in another direction (Network Admin). I am sick of living in a cubicle and am no longer so focused on a big paycheck. Any suggested course of action would be appreciated. My main concern is that I would be at a disadvantage in school because all the background info (theories, etc.) has long since slipped away...LOL
Name few good career counseling centers in the creative field located in Mumbai, India.? My friend has an experience in a variety of creative fields.
