What resources can I use to boost the quality of my career search? Hey everyone, I will be a Senior next year at NCSU and am trying to start my career search process. I have to do a career search interview? I have to do a career search interview, but have noo clue on what to ask the person. The person is an accountant. Can someone plzz help me to come up with questions that i can ask that person.
How do I start again after a stale career search and a not so good reason for leaving my last job? I'm an interior designer by trade and haven't been able to find a job in almost a year. I am looking/have been looking for a job the entire time, but when it comes down to the interview, the same two questions always comes up. Why haven't you worked in the past year? Why did you leave your last job? Then I never hear from the employer again. Truth is I quit my last job because I didn't like the way management was running the store (was a retail sales position) and I wasn't getting along with the assistant manager. So my question is what is the best response to these questions? I'm hoping to recieve a well qualified answer from someone who has been through this or from someone who would be hiring in this field.
How might I present my ongoing search for a satisfying career as a positive and not an inability to commit? I have an interview for a position I don't know that much about except that it would be for a great company. My anxiety arises when they ask about my work history. It is all over the place. You see, over the last ten years, I've been a professional musician then corporate administrative assistant then high school teacher and now a freelance copy writer. How might I present my ongoing earnest search for a satisfying career as a positive and not an inability to commit? This job could be the one and I don't want to blow it! Also, it's over the phone. Is layed back better or worse than super upbeat friendly? You just never know what little insubstantial things will turn someone off especially over the phone. Am I being neurotic?
How to search for career opportunities outside of your area? I am from and currently residing in Pittsburgh. I spent four years away when I was in college, and now I'm back and working in a field that I hate in a job that makes me feel completely hopeless. I would love to move to a new place and start a new career, but it seems almost impossible to do so. I've heard so many times before that I need to move away from Pittsburgh to find a career that I will enjoy, or even to find more than the few career opportunities found in the Pittsburgh area, but to get started seems daunting. I have a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication, with Finance,Customer Service, Media and Sales experience. For the lDoes anyone have advice for how to apply for jobs outside of your home area, and how to entice employers to take a chance on a "foreigner?" It would be a dream come true to move outside of the United States, but I'm not holding my breath, but if anyone can offer advice on where and how to apply for jobs outside of the country, I would love to hear them

Is it worth paying for a Career Builder account upgrade in my job search? My husband has been searching for a job for four months and so far no interviews. He has a great resume, education, experience, background, and portfolio...no reason why he shouldn't have some interest out there. Upgrading puts his resume to the top of a employers list when they do a search...worth it?

I am a recent college grad looking for certifications to help with my career, computer or otherwise. Thoughts? Hey, I recently graduated college with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and a minor in management. I also have an associates degree in Business Technology/Managment. I am having a tough go of the career search. I have had a few interviews and some offers, but nothing that I thought were solid choices. I was wondering if there were any certifications worth looking into while I have some free time in between interviews. Are there any professional certifications that would be of help? Also, I have had some basic computer classes...but I was wondering how hard some of the network, I.T, MCSE, type certifications were to get. Would it be worth my time to try and get some type of computer certification? Or would I be totally lost without a background in it. Thanks.

Job search for post college career? I am graduating in June 2007 with a BA in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. For the past month or so, I have been actively applying to various posted employment positions online by submitting my resume and cover letter. Most of the positions that I apply for are financial analyst entry-level positions, since I would like to pursue a career in the finance sector. I am deeply concerned with the lack of response I have received from employers. It is making me quite nervous about life after college and my ability to find a lucrative career. Can someone offer some helpful advice, tips, or words of comfort? Thanks in advance.
Does "Posterwall.com" domain name work for a career/work/employment/job-search website.? This question is best answered by a native US English speaking person. I am setting up a career/work/employment/ job-search website and am considering using the domain name posterwall.com. Good domains are hard to come by. Question is what you think about when you hear "Posterwall.com". The idea is that Posterwall.com can refer to a wall where "Help wanted" and "Need job" notes are posted, like in a public requitement office etc. But if Posterwall.com just sounds weird to native US English speakers, off the mark, strange and definitely not appropriate for such I site I would like to much know it before I buy the domain name. So what do you think of the domain posterwall.com for a job search site site? Thanks. There is nothing on this site now but the URL will look like this: http://www.posterwall.com

Help with Career (not job) search: would like to have certain factors in a job: advise me please. See below.? I am researching careers so I can get a better sense of which would be a good fit for me. I am soliciting suggestions which I will further research. I would like the career field to allow me to do the following: 1. Write 2. Learn on a regular basis 3. Involve somehow helping others or interacting with others 4. Allow me to not just do one thing all the time (aka have variety of duties). About me: I live in America and have a degree in Sociology. I've worked in a nonprofit and a school but have not been in the professional workforce for too long. I am thinking of going to graduate school; please do not base suggestions only on my degree and experience. Thanks!
Does anyone go "job-hopping" or even "career-hopping" in search for happiness? Or do you just grit and bear it for finance's sake? (Assuming that you're unhappy in your current position.) How do you distinguish the cons that come with any occupation that just make you want to freak out from just complete and utter contempt for the position? To me it all feels the same. I just CAN'T be happy no matter where I am, no matter what I'm doing. I start off with this excellent perserverent, enthusiastic bang and then this "bang" turns into disdain and frustration. I dread going to work. I leave in agony and my head pounding. I go to school now for a new career which I'm in the middle of my clinicals and I am so fed-up. I just can't see myself doing this for a living. I'm just so UNHAPPY!!!! I dread going there everyday and what I have to do. I'm just always so frustrated. Anyone else going through this? Job after job? Career after career? And still NOTHING that satisfies you?
In search of computing career.? Hello, Im finishing up my grade 12 year next year, and am frantic about my career (I have no idea what it may be yet). I've been looking everywhere, I juggled aviation, to physiotherapy, to carpentry work. My real joy is the computer. I use it for games, chatting, etc of course. But I love figuring things out on it, I would love to get into programming but I've heard its a very hard market to get into. My goal would be to support myself with a comfortable lifestyle and still have time for personal things besides work. If you have experience or know of careers with good hours, good pay, and are interesting, could you list some out? I would really appreciate any advice. P.S. I live in Canada, Ontario, if it matters for job market figures...

Finance Career advice in New York (Hedge Fund)? I just moved to New York and feel like I am hitting a wall when it comes to career search. I dont really know anyone so it is hard making connections. Here is my bio. I have a bachelor's degree in English from UC Berkeley (crappy GPA though), and a masters degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University. I have almost no work experience, aside from working at a CPA firm for 4 months this past spring. I am very interested in a career in finance because I love investing and doing research about companies, investment opportunities, etc. My dream job would be working in a Hedge Fund or another investment firm. Can anyone point me in the right direction? What experiences do I need to work at a hedge fund? Where should I work to gain those experiences. Any and all advice is appreciated.
Frustration with Career searching.? Here are a list of careers I am interested in: Doctor, nursing, dentistry, nanotechnology engineering, generic engineering. They're all appealing to me and it is not definite what I want to be so I was wondering what I should major in university that could also be a backup for another career? Because if now I wanted to be an engineer and then change to doctor..or if I find out that med school is not for me. It is really difficult to know where to go... and how to plan my life... you know. I can ask anyone and they will give me different answers or more to think about.
