How do I choose a career? I'm 30. I have a BA degree in liberal arts (psychology minor). I took classes in education, psychology, Spanish and etc. I've only worked as a secretary, file clerk and receptionist in a couple law offices. Law really bores me. I have no desire to become a lawyer or paralegal. For the past 10 years I've volunteered off and on in schools, churches and other organizations teaching children, serving food to homeless people, and etc etc. I enjoy working with nonprofits helping people. I want to go back to school and do something more in psychology/sociology/ social field than say legal field. Before I go back to school I would like to have some idea what field/job I want to pursue. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to decide? Do I volunteer at different places? Read books? Go talk to career services at my former college? How did you choose a career?
Sociology/Human Services Career Interests? I'm really interested in Sociology and Human Services (Sociology is my 1st choice) fields, but I don't quite know exactly what career I want to go in to. Something with criminology, juvenile delinquency, etc. I don't want to be a counselor necessarily and definitely not a social worker (I don't want to take kids away from their parents). I wouldn't mind being a probation office (adult or juvenile) but those jobs are hard to get in my city. I'm not sure what kind of jobs are offered in the women's prison system (the women's is in my city, the male's prison is too far) or the juvenile detention center, but I wouldn't mind those places as long as I'm not a guard or anything. Does anyone have advice/career possibilities they can offer that are in those areas?

How can you tell which job/career is right for you? I'm 29 years old and I have to find a job/career that suits me before I get old. The question is how do I find the right job or career that makes good money and that is not stressful. I graduated from Baruch city college in New York with a BA degree in English Communications and have trouble finding a good suitable paying job. Should I go back to my old college stomping grounds to take some classes so I can get an MBA? Should I seek career service advice from my old college? Is there a vocational test I can take? Should I speak to career counselors outside my old college? I really need help, someone please help me, I felt like I wasted 3 to 5 years of my life on meaningless jobs and I felt too old (29) and too late to get a good job/career.

financial services career change? I have worked as a residential realtor for almost two years since graduating college with a B.A. I am looking to get into the financial services industry but really don't know where to start. Anyone with advice on the subject?

Career transition to Financial Services? I am a successful Recruiting Manager about 4 years into my career. I graduated with a BBA in Mngt in 2004. I am wanting to make a transition into the Financial Services Industry but not quite sure where to start. I have all the requirements needed in order to be brought on by a large firm that will sponsor me through licensures and training, however I am reluctant due to my cost of living. I am single and have a mortgage. This would be a risky move! Long story short ;)....does anyone have other suggestions for me to segway into finance without quitting my job and jumping right in? Or perhaps other career suggestions that have higher starting salaries, such as a Sales Assistant to a group of Financial Advisors? Something allowing me to begin getting my feet wet with a bit less risk to my needed stable paycheck? Thank you! :)

Who wants to give me career advice? I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Im a sophmore fine arts major and I'm very unhappy with that. I dont want to settle with a career in art education, or any teaching field for that matter. I went to career services and they said I should pursue majors in Communications (philosophy, political science), and Business (marketing, public relations.) Over the summer I work in a gift shop, and also I'm a guest services manager at a waterpark. I loooove running the gift shop, and as long as I'm working with customers I'm happy .(and not doing mindless work such as ticketing sales... I like answering questions and assisting emergencies/complaints) so I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for me. Whats the differnence between marketing & communications degrees? Should I major in marketing with a minor in philosphy, vice versa, or communications & marketing, or communications & philosphy. And what careers await me? lol I have no idea what Im working with here. Also, I have enough credits to declare a minor in fine arts.
What can I do? Education or Social Services? Career Counselor was worthless.? I have 2 AA Degrees, a Bachelor's Degree in Management, 61 units completed for the Education Specialist Credential in M-M Disabilities and additional coursework in ASL, Child Development and Computers/Office Technology. I did not pass my student teaching due to my disability. My work experience includes (Aide, Substitute Teacher, ESL Testing Technician, Non-profit agencies for clients w/disabilities, food service and retail). I could get my Masters in ED w/o the credential by taking 4 more classes ( + my thesis). Or, I could take the same amount of classes for the ECE Credential, (no thesis required) But, what if I don't pass my student teaching again? Most of my education and experience is in education. If I apply in a field that is different, employers say I need a different degree or ask, why the change? I need to know what am I qualified to do with what I have so far. If I need to go a little further, Masters Degree or an ECE credential? Please help if you can. I have passed the CBEST, SSAT and RICA Examinations for teaching. I do not have the energy to start a different Masters Degree from the bottom-up.
Has anyone used PCS Career Management services? What did they charge? Were they any good? UK only please. Thanks.
Advice on Insurance and Financial Services Career(s)? It looks like I am about to test for the Life & Health (license) in my state (Virginia). I have twice before held a Property & Casualty (though it was not for the purpose of selling insurance). The P&C, studying and exam wise (by my account, and virtually everyone I ever spoke to about it), was rather difficult. I am told by everyone now that the Life & Health is not nearly as difficult. Is this anyone elses experience? Is it advisable to perhaps simply go to the library, work from the internet, and learn enough to pass the exam? Also, I am looking at (hoping for) the possibilty to work in annuities and other financial products - however I am not even exactly sure what an annuity is (lol). Can anyone explain an annuity and offer any other advice about the industry (Life & Health, financial services, etc.)? I appreciate all responses - thx! - g.

Counselling Skills for Human Services certificate..............career ideas? I have this certificate (I live in Ontario) and I have not been able to find any jobs that only require this specific certificate. For example, if I apply at a group home, schools or shelters, I get told that I need my Social Worker diploma or CYW diploma or so forth. It's not like I am applying to be a social worker or anything but it seems like now to get a job in the community services field you have to have a specialized diploma. I am starting to wonder why colleges even offer this program if no one hires ppl with the cert. Does anyone have any idea what jobs I do qualify for or was this a wasted certificate for me?

What career is right for my daughter? My daughter is nineteen, with a different calling than most. She chose a career in Funeral Services, is taking classes at a Community College in hopes of tranferring to another College later for the specialty classes. But she has just been diagnosed with Lyme Disease (had it unknowingly her whole life) and the first treatment of 11 months did not work. She is trying a second treatment that is uncertain. Meanwhile she has extreme fatigue, depression, low immunity, flu-like symptoms, and foggy brain which affect her studies and attendance. She has had to write a letter to have her financial aid reinstated because her grades were too low. Now she is only permitted to do half-time, and she has to redo several classes. She is frustrated and about to quit. She is also interested in New Age stuff and has lately considered opening a shop with tarot card fortune telling. I hate to see her give up on her dream. Any ideas or comments?
